Wed, 25 October 2006 Back again after a sweet Chili Peppers show last week. They even played a little Mother's Milk with Nobody Weird Like Me... nice! Flea's still got it. Saw recently that The Deli Magazine's web site has named Earl Greyhound's new album as the NYC CD of the month. But I was giving you the 411 on them back in February with Show 1 of Alphabet City Radio! In other words, keep coming back here if you want to hear the buzz before it buzzes. Check out what's on the podcast this week... Wednesday, Oct. 25: The Standing Nudes out of Brooklyn hit the stage at Cake Shop. Salt and Samovar (from Show 30) hit Mercury Lounge . Thursday, Oct. 26: Check out The Fake Accents at Pianos. I'd describe the sound as Lou Reed playing for a band that is a cross between The Hives and The Strokes. Friday, Oct. 27: A little indie hip hop at Sin-e with The Metermaids. Forget West Coast, these guys mix it up New York style. Seizure 17 (Show 20) will be out in Brooklyn at The Lyceum. Saturday, Oct. 28: Tiger City mixes a little electronic with their guitars and drums at Mercury Lounge. Here's a cool one that caught my eye: The Head Set (Show 2) will be covering Queen's album The Game. It's a great album, so it would be interesting to see what they do with it. I close this edition of Alphabet City Radio with one from The Handsome Public in honor of their shows in Iceland. Happy travels!e-mail: alphabetcityradio@gmail.com Comments[20] |
Tue, 17 October 2006 I'll be at the Meadowlands funkin' it up with the Chili Peppers on Wednesday night (looking forward to hearing what John might cover this time), but it's still an excellent week for the live tunes in our 'hood too. Here's who's on this week's podcast: Wednesday, Oct. 18: Wussy (and here) (w/Chuck from the Ass Ponys) from Cincinnati hits Lit Lounge. Thursday, Oct. 19: Australia's The Mess Hall (and here) invades the stage at Mercury Lounge. They've toured recently with Wolfmother, and with their retro rock sound, it's easy to see why. Friday, Oct. 20: Catch some good solid rock music from New York's Blood Red Sun. They're at Sin-e. E-mail Chad at alphabetcityradio@gmail.com Saturday, Oct. 21: The eclectic sounds of El Jezel (and here) at The Delancey. Check them out. It's really cool how they change their style among their songs. Saw Silversun Pickups last week. What an amazing show! The whole band sounded great, and they were totally psyched for the show, which in turn electrified the crowd. They'll be at Pianos for CMJ on Nov. 2 for the Dangerbird Records showcase. There are cheap-ass tix available. It's one that shouldn't be missed. Send Chad an email at alphabetcityradio@gmail.com Comments[3] |
Tue, 10 October 2006 Yo, yo, yo! It's the Alphabet City Radio show. This is a very special episode. I've got a great brand-new song from The Glass, who are playing every Thursday this month at Pianos. Thanks to Dominique. It's the first time this song has ever been broadcast! Thursday, October 12, and every Thursday in October, The Glass hits the stage at Pianos. These guys are producing some great beats. Cool to see indie music that isn't always necessarily rock. Wednesday, October 11, The Sketches (and click here) play their power piano pop at Arlene's Grocery as a part of DC in NYC. Thursday, October 12, Bowery Ballroom's got Viva Voce (and click here) from Portland. Sort of an anti-White Stripes (although they do rock it out a bit)... she plays guitar, while he plays the drums, and they've never claimed to be brother and sister (as far as I know). Friday, October 13, don't lock yourself in your room to escape Friday the 13th, embrace it, and see the shoe-gazers Charlene (and click here) at Cake Shop. Saturday, October 14, Dark Side of the Cop (and click here) play Lit Lounge. Check if you think this singer sounds like Brian Wilson reincarnated (although he isn't really dead). email Chad at alphabetcityradio@gmail.com Comments[3] |
Wed, 4 October 2006 Sorry, folks, this show's a little shorter than normal. I've had a rough week, so I didn't have all the time I would have liked. However, I still was able to find some choice bands that will be playing in the 'hood. So check out who's on the show this week...
