Fri, 19 October 2007 I was hoping to get together a podcast for at least the weekend, but it's just not going to happen. Unfortunately, a brother's gotta get some sleep at some point. So, I'll just have to get the word to you through text... As I said last week CMJ Music Marathon has been going on all week. Although the lineup doesn't excite me as much as in the past, except for some of the most popular bands (Spoon, M.I.A., Band of Horses, Sahara Hotnights, Deerhunter), it's still a great time. Saw the Meat Puppets last night. They put on an excellent show. It's hard to believe they've been playing for 20 years. Their songs are pretty timeless. It continues through the weekend (all over downtown Manhattan and in Brooklyn), and here are a few good tidbits going on around the Alphabet City area. It's a great time to check out numerous bands in different showcases around the city at very small venues. Club Midway looks to have pretty much the best lineup in the area for the weekend. Friday night opens at 7:00 with Hot Springs... a great band with an amazing singer (ton of energy, will be awesome at such a small venue). If you're a fan of the Noisettes, you'll like this one. You'll want to get there early and stick around for Illinois, who puts together a great show. In the afternoon, Saturday at Pianos is a nice line-up with Tiny Masters of Today (the most famous pre-teens in rock) and The Maccabees. Also on Saturday night if you're feeling adventurous head over the river to Brooklyn and go to The Music Hall of Williamsburg and seek the Art Goblins (code name for Art Brut). ! Wed, 10 October 2007 Well... the Yankees totally folded (will A-rod & Torre be back??), the Mets totally collapsed (the real reason they're amazin'... clean out their pitching staff, please??). What to do? How about checking out these bands on this week's podcast... Wednesday, Oct. 10: Prize Country come out of Portland to blow out that dank little basement at Lit Lounge. Thursday, Oct. 11: The Sweet Ones punk it out at Club Midway. Friday, Oct. 12: Gliss have a dark, sexy sound (think BRMC) and open the night at Bowery Ballroom. Saturday, Oct. 13: Check out Low Lustre at Pianos. email me (I'm Chad) at alphabetcityradio@gmail.com Comments[18] |
